Information Architecture, User Experience & Interaction Design

Hi. I'm a User Experience and User Interface Designer in Seattle with over 8 years experience architecting, developing, and managing websites and web applications.

I am currently happily employed and not looking for new work. You can read more about me on Linkedin.

What I Do

As a UX designer, I help solve business problems. I do so by understanding the needs, goals, motivations, dislikes, and fears of the users of any given website, and designing to help meet those goals or allay those fears while still meeting any business requirements.

More specifically, I research users' behavior, and design software navigation, architectures, visual hierarchy, information display, and other software compontents in the most engaging and usable ways possible.

This means that on a day to day basis, I am assessing user need's, planning website or software layouts and architectures, designing the visual elements for a software or website system, and coding the display layer of that system.

The clients I have worked for include Microsoft, Nintendo of America, The McKesson Corporation, Flow Corporation, Amazon.com(My current gig), The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Motorola, and many others.

My Work

I was under NDA for most of my projects, and many were internal or proprietary systems. However, a few that have launched publicly include:

McKesson's home page needed an update to bring it into the current era. I was the primary interaction designer for the redesign—a major initiative for the company in 2009—and worked closely with visual design and marketing to conceive the current homepage.

Microsoft Business Center

Microsoft's small business center needed an overhaul in order to increase its value to and extend its user base. I architected a strong information framework for the site, adding rich metadata to each resource, and creating a uniform filterable experience for each resource type.

CTED has a vast taxonomy of business and tourist activities in Washington State. I helped extend the design of the city browse pages to make all taxonomic nodes more discoverable and information display richer, so that users can find interesting things to do in Washington State.
