Yes...we're knee deep in princess goo. I definitely don't mind the girly stuff; I love being girly right along with her. What bothers me is that the Disney Princesses all get married, so Hazel is always talking about getting married. I'm starting to be afraid that she thinks that it's the be-all, end-all of everything. I do tell her she doesn't have to get married and that she needs to see the world and go to college and drive a car before she can get married, and I try to show her other female role models. But those princesses have a hold on her.
Thankfully she does enjoy things like bugs and worms and trucks and cars as well. It helps to have a little brother, and her best friend, Kai is a little guy too. Besides, Henry does like to play with Hazel's fairy wand!

Since we hope to have a little girl at some point, these sorts of things make me wonder how to handle these issues.

I hate the idea of seeing my daughter fall prey to all of these gender stereotypes, or, even worse, develop an eating disorder, etc. On the other hand, I don't want to deny her the chance to be a girly girl if that's what she wants to be.

Thankfully, I think our daughter would have a good role model in Amy for how to be a smart, independent woman.. so maybe I'm worrying about nothing...
